National Military Appreciation Month started as a simple idea; to gather America around its military family to honor, remember, recognize and appreciate those who have served and those now serving and to know the history behind it all. Subsequent formal legislation informs our Soldiers and their service counterparts that their country has set aside an entire month to honor, remember and appreciate them.
The Army has recognized that National Military Appreciation Month is an opportunity for Soldiers and family members to show gratitude for the support they receive from the private sector and family members. It is also an opportunity for the private sector and family members to show support and appreciation and express “thanks” to our Army families. Many activities and events are planned at all installations and agencies. The Army intends to continue its efforts to become an integral part of their communities especially through celebrations on Armed Forces Day, May 16, and Memorial Day, May 25. All Soldiers and civilians are invited to participate in this special month and to encourage everyone to sponsor and participate in programs via multiple venues, giving the Nation a time and place upon which to focus, draw attention and express our appreciation and thanks to our military family.
