SWL Public Affairs earns best Community Relations program in USACE award

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District Public Affairs team has a long and proven track record of engaging stakeholders and community members across the district. Their wide-ranging community outreach strategy greatly enhanced the understanding of the district’s missions and improved the Corps’ public standing and reputation. That effort garnered them Corps-level recognition as winners of the 2015 Locke L. Mouton Award for the best Community Relations program in USACE.

Their responsiveness to community and individual concerns during record flooding and multiple master plan and shoreline management plan revisions was commendable. They took complex issues and connected on a personal level with thousands of citizens across their district to help reduce anxieties while providing much needed, timely and accurate information.

Their efforts in the social media arena greatly improved direct communications across a widespread and diverse area of responsibility. They have more than doubled the reach of their Facebook page through the use of creative and informative video shorts and subject matter expert interviews.

Comprehensive communication strategies start and end with maximizing every public interaction to improve the Corps’ transparency and the public’s understanding of our mission. The Little Rock District’s public affairs efforts hit that mark and were further recognized with the 2015 Michael C. Robinson Award for Excellence as the Top PA Practitioner in USACE.
